Author and traveller Dot Bekker recently visited Mia’s Books in Robertson earlier this month to chat about her book, Going home to Africa.
“Dot prefers to visit smaller bookstores in small towns,” explains Mich Sodigal-Andrews, the owner of the bookstore. “We had a lovely time. She spoke about her book and the guests also had the chance to ask her some questions.”
Bekker writes about her travels by van through Africa and everything she experienced on her 20 000 km journey back to her homeland of Zimbabwe.
The second-hand bookstore opened in October 2021 and has since launched three books as well.
“Local authors are welcome to contact us,” says Sodigal-Andrews. “I have worked for bookstores for many years before opening my own and have vast experience in promoting, marketing and launching books.”
The store has a wide variety of secondhand books on their shelves. From Afrikaans books, to fantasy, sci-fi and cooking.
“We have something for everyone,” Sodigal-Andrews says.
Anyone who has old books they don’t know what do with can donate it to Mia’s Books situated at 21 Victoria Street.
