The Zolani Youth Choir has been invited to the sixth Choral Network Festival Concert in Cape Town the weekend of 27-29 May.

“We are the only choir in Langeberg having been invited to this prestigious event,” said the founder and conductor of the choir, Odwa Mvunge. “Owing to many members’ parents being seasonal workers the members cannot afford the trip, we are calling on individuals, businesses and any organisations willing to assist us.”

The total cost of the trip is R25 000 for 35 choir members, which includes transport, accommodation and food.

“The choir also made an effort to do fundraising concerts, which will be free to guests in the hopes that people attending will donate something towards our trip to Cape Town,” Mvunge said.

The trip takes place in May and the choir will be performing along big choirs in the choral space namely, Voces Cordis, Cantare Paarl Boys High, South African Youth Choir, Tygerberg Children’s Choir, Treble Clefs, DF Malan High School, Eersterivier South Youth Choir, Winelands Chamber Choir, Kenridge Primary School Choir.

“It is overwhelming for a group of youth coming from a small location such as Zolani to be invited to participate in such a huge choral event.

The major event of the festival will be held on 29 May at 15:00 at the Cape Town City Hall. For more information, or to make a donation, please contact Mvunge on 081 555 3789.
