Local music lovers can look forward to an evening of musical entertainment when the Montagu Music Society will host a concert at the Montagu Museum on 2 May. The concert, which will start at 20:00, will feature the French cellist Philippe Cauchefer and South African-born pianist Marika Hofmeyr.
The programme includes Bach’s Suite No 1 in G major BWV 1007, Brahms’ Sonata in e minor Op. 38 and works by Hendrik Hofmeyr, Martinu, Beethoven, Faure and Saint-Saëns.
Philippe Cauchefer, who is the principal cellist in the Cannes Chamber Orchestra and a cello teacher at Cannes Music Academy, has played freelance in many Parisian orchestras as well as in the whole country. He also tours extensively in France, as well as throughout the world.
Born in Cape Town, Marika Hofmeyr received her earliest tuition from her mother, Nancy, and from age nine she was a pupil of the American Lamar Crowson. After having received the B.Mus. degree with distinction from the University of Cape Town, she won a scholarship to further her studies abroad. Marika settled in the south of France in 1990 and is currently teaching at the Grasse Conservatory
