Several arrests for possession

On Thursday 24 March the Sector Commander of Bonnievale police, Sergeant Conrad Swartz arrested a 26-year-old male in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition in the squatter camp here.

“This was during a special operation held in the early hours of Thursday morning. Sergeant Swartz was assisted by the police anti-gang unit. A 36-year-old female was also arrested on a farm outside Bonnievale for possession of mandrax and dagga to the value of R2 500,” related Bonnievale police spokesperson Sergeant Sarah Julies.

She added it is the duty of police to keep illegal firearms and drugs off the street.

“Sergeant Swartz also says it is crucial that information received from the public be handled swiftly and with the utmost care,” Julies said.

The Acting Station Commander Warrant Officer Pierre Steyn praised Swartz for the arrest.

“He said the successful arrest is a good example of how proper preparation and dealing with sensitive information can ensure criminals are put behind bars,” the spokesperson said.

One suspect was arrested for the possession of a weapon and another for possession of drugs.

“He also thanked the AGU and want the community of Bonnievale to know the police will not hesitate to react when criminal activities come to their attention, and which may put the community in danger.”

The police welcome any information from the public that might help in the combatting of crime.
