Workers Mfezeko Sidiki (behind), Mzianda Rolulu, Henry Visser, Osuriq Oryan, Brando Damons and Glenda Francke boasting massive pumpkins harvested from Vergelegen Estate’s thriving vegetable garden. The moment was captured by avid amateur photographer Frances Bishop from Somerset West last Monday (14 March). He wished to share it with fellow readers, sharing that workers collected the pumpkins from the vegetable garden and transported to the Stables restaurant, where some are also displayed outside.” Providing further insight, Vergelegen Estate’s horticulturist Richard Arm says: “We have a large vegetable garden that has been supplying vegetables to our restaurants and NGOs such as the Somerset West Night Shelter, Heartlands Baby Sanctuary and the community during tough Covid times. We are still doing this. We also encouraged our community living on the farm to start growing vegetables and started the giant pumpkin competition. Judging will take place soon. Stables restaurant has been busy with “guess the weight of the garden team’s giant pumpkin” . . . all good, clean gardening fun.”Photo: Frances Bishop
