A well-known business owner from Nkqubela, Robertson was fatally shot last week.
On Sunday 2 October at 02:00 three unknown men entered Emhobo’s tavern, where Xolisile Mhobo (44) was fatally wounded during and armed robbery.
“It appears the three men entered the premises, one of them armed with a firearm,” a spokesperson for Robertson police said.
Three people were shot – the owner, his daughter and another man. Mhobo died on the way to hospital. His daughter, Xoliswa, was shot in the leg and arm.
She was admitted to hospital after the incident took place, but has since been released. Xoliswa related what happened on that fateful morning: “The three men came into the tavern, One of them tried to take money from me. I started fighting him off and then my dad came to help and the next thing I hear is gunshots.”
When she woke in hospital after the incident she was informed of her father’s passing. “I couldn’t believe it. I still can’t believe it. I feel as if I am being lied to and that my father is going to come home any time soon. I remember seeing him being shot and falling, but thought he would wake up and be here.”
Xoliswa added that her father’s death has been a huge shock for the rest of the family as well.
“He was the love of our lives,” she said. “He was my everything. We did everything together. I don’t know how I am going to survive without him. But right now we, as a family, are trying our best to be strong. We are trying to stay strong so that we can bury him and then start our healing process.”
One of the deceased’s nephews, Melikhaya Mhobo, said the community was mourning the loss of his uncle.
“Everybody knew him. Everybody is sad about his untimely death. He really was a great guy and an even better uncle. He was always in a good mood. At this point there are too many words to describe how saddened I am by his death. When my mother told me the news I totally lost it. I was so confused I didn’t know what to do.”
A memorial service will be held in the hall in Nkqubela on Wednesday afternoon.
At this stage no arrests have been made in connection with this armed robbery.
