A 57-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and dealing in drugs after Malmesbury police officials followed up on information that led them to an address in Godetia Street.
According to local spokesperson Capt Marko Heydenrych, police received information on Thursday 24 February at approximately 16:30 of a person in possession of an unlicensed firearm and drugs.
The information led them to said address, and on their arrival there they found the suspect and executed a thorough search.
They found an Astra LR Rifle, 11 rounds of ammunition, 11 sachets of crystal meth, 12 Mandrax tablets, 16 half-Mandrax tablets as well as three small bags of Mandrax powder concealed in the ceiling of the house.
The firearm, ammunition and drugs was confiscated and the suspect subsequently arrested on related charges.
He appeared in the Malmesbury Magistrates’ Court the following day.
The Station Commander of Malmesbury Police Col MB Gqabi has welcomed the arrest and expressed his thanks towards the community and the members for their commitment and efforts in the fight against crime.
