Marry Me, a new romantic comedy starring silver-screen heavyweights Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson, opened in South African cinemas last Friday (11 February).

Directed by Kat Coiro, the flick also features top-selling Latin-American music artist making his feature film debut Maluma, John Bradley, Chloe Colman and Sarah Silverman.

Packed with original songs, Marry Me stars Lopez as musical superstar Kat Valdez and Wilson as maths teacher Charlie Gilbert – total strangers who agree to marry and then get to know each other.

An unlikely romance about two different people searching for something real in a world where value is based on likes and followers, Marry Me is a modern love story about celebrity, marriage and social media.

Said producer Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, who also worked with Lopez on Maid in Manhattan: “To make a movie about modern celebrity – to juxtapose who the public thinks a celebrity is with who she actually is as a person – interested me. This film allows audiences to discover the human behind the image. It was a delicious opportunity.”

The official trailer of the film can be found on YouTube.
