The companies Seashore Films from Robertson and The Ergo company from Johannesburg are presently producing an Afrikaans-language feature film in partnership with MNet and Kyknet Movies and the National Film and Video Foundation.

It features the Western Cape Christmas Choir bands (blaas orkeste) and the Robertson Old Saint Blues Christmas Choir Band in particular. Robertson Old Saint Blues recently celebrated its 80th year with a festival in Robertson on 27 March.

The film is regarded as very important as it looks at the immense historical role played by Western Cape Christmas Choirs in the South African social landscape, something that has never been brought to screens before. Filming has taken place in Robertson and surrounds for the past two weeks, and on Sunday 15 May it took place at the Boland Stadium in Worcester.

The Christmas Choirs that were filmed on Sunday were ‘Old Saint Blues’, ‘The Fleet’, ‘The Crusaders’, ‘The Young Christians’ and ‘Vision of Daniel’.
