Ma-ki(e)-ti(e): “Jollification, have a good time with friends and family, feast!”

Make sure you head to Montagu this weekend for the annual Montagu Makiti, which takes place from 24 to 27 September. With so much to do for the entire family, be sure to plan your weekend carefully so as not to miss your favourite events and activities.

This year’s Montagu Makiti Family Festival sees many of the old favourites returning, plus a few new items on the list.

Kicking things off on Thursday, 24 September, is the SPCA Mutts March and the Birds and Bees Bonanza at Farmer Redbeard.

The MimeTime Show, a stage show with a humorous twist, playing well-known music tracks that we all can relate to, on 25 September is not to be missed. The show takes place at the Dutch Reformed Church hall at 19:00. Tickets for the show cost R100 for seating at tables and R70 for balcony seating.

Saturday, 26 September is packed with items like the popular Makiti Golf Day, street market and parade.

Join the festivities in Bath Street, where all the action will be. The street market will start at 08:00, with the street parade kicking off at 10:00.

Bath Street from Barry to Church Street will be cordoned off, allowing you to walk freely between the different stalls running along Bath Street, just as in the good old days. The market will offer a range of delicious eats as well as local produce and wares.

Newcomers to the festival are Russell Fox and stand-up comedian Wayne McKay, offering the intriguing Mind Games where magic and insanity collide. The show starts at 20:00 and tickets cost R80 each. Tickets are available at the Montagu Tourism Office.

One of the key events of the Montagu Makiti is the Golf Day sponsored by Montagu Dried Fruit and Nuts, and hosted at the Montagu Golf Club. The golf day, also taking place on 26 September, is a fun event for family, friends and colleagues to enjoy some sunshine on the golf course. The first T-off is at 08:30
