Police have confirmed that a 58-year-old man was arrested on May 9 for the murder of Vanessa van Rensburg (36) whose lifeless body was found at a holiday home in Oyster Bay, a small community near Jeffreys Bay on April 20.
According to police spokesperson Captain Marius McCarthy, the man who was arrested in connection with the murder of Van Rensburg will appear in court soon.
“The suspect is due to appear before the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court when charged,” said McCarthy.
As previously reported, Van Rensburg resided in Walmer, Gqeberha, at the time of her death.
She leaves behind two young children, aged 8 and 4, as well as her parents and three siblings – Johan (42), Caroline Brooker (40), and Claudette (37).
A family representative said that they acknowledge the arrest of a suspect in connection with Van Rensburg’s tragic murder and that they are grateful to the South African Police Service for their efforts in this investigation.
“In accordance with the South African legal system, we respect the ongoing judicial process and the rights of all parties involved. We are not in a position to provide further comment until formal charges have been laid and the matter proceeds in court,” the representative said.
“We ask for privacy during this difficult time as we continue to mourn the loss of our beloved Vanessa. We trust that justice will be served through the due process of law.”
Van Rensburg’s bruised body was discovered at her boyfriend’s holiday home in Oyster Bay on April 20 after police in St Francis Bay responded to a complaint at the premises.
Her family has described her as compassionate and selfless and has said that she has touched countless lives with her remarkable ability to love unconditionally.
