The National Lotteries Commission presented a highly successful Outreach Workshop at the Calvyn Protestant Church in Macassar last Wednesday (2 February). It was initiated by the Western Cape NPO Association (WCNPOA) and hosted by local community organisation Macassar Our Pride.

Giving a background on his organisation in his introduction, WCNPOA chairperson Deon Britz said: “The WCNPOA was formed in 2021 as a result of the impact the Covid-19 lockdown regulations imposed on various sectors in our communities.”

He also briefly elaborated on the purpose of the workshop. “We are currently engaged in discussions with numerous government departments with the purpose of channelling information to NPOs with regard to funding applications. Consequently, we entered into an agreement with the National Lotteries Commission to present outreach workshops to inform NPOs how to apply for funding at this entity.”

National Lotteries Commission Deputy Provincial Manager Marlyn Buise outlined a number of application forms and thoroughly explained the processes of applying for funding from the commission to participants. He emphasised the importance of accompanying their submission with a well-thought-out, comprehensive business plan to secure a successful application.

Macassar Our Pride’s Japie Konstabel expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming attendance of local NPOs at the workshop. He said: “The outreach workshop surely comes at a right time for our community, and we as NPOs should really make use of the valuable information we received. We are therefore really grateful for the significant attendance at the workshop. It can only do good to our community.”

Macassar Our Pride chairperson Clive Jefthas extended a word of thanks to all stakeholders who secured the success of the workshop. “We would like to thank the Calvyn Protestant Church, Macassar for availing its premises for the event. Thank you to the Western Cape NPO Association, which initiated the workshop, and especially the National Lotteries Commission for its availability to reach out to our communities.”
