Lovers of all genres in the arts can look forward to one of the highlights on the arts calendar when the annual Montagu Music, Art, Dance and Drama Festival (MMADD) kicks off in August.
The festival, hosted by the Rural Arts Foundation (RAD), will lure visitors from all over Montagu where they will be treated to a host of artistic activities.
The festival, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, will take place from 12 to 22 August. The vision for this year’s festivities remains clear: to present with dedication, passion and support a competitive platform for youth performing and visual arts.
Events for the festival include art exhibitions, photography exhibitions, piano recitals, choir performances, craft and puppetry shows, drama, poetry and literature recitals and more. It is also one of the few youth festivals in South Africa that incorporates all the different art forms into one creative outlet.
This year’s theme will be “Heritage” with additional categories this year, including Best Drama Poster, Edited Photographs, Craft and Puppetry, Dance with a Message and Spoken Poetry.
The drama and poetry “Oscars Prize Giving Celebration” will take place at 17:00 on the 22 August and include nominations for the prize or trophy winners. Trophy Winners in all categories will be invited to present or perform at the Heita Hello Heritage event during the Montagu Makiti Family Heritage Festival in September.
The festival opens with an art and photography exhibition and prize giving at the Montagu Museum Gallery on 12 August at 18:00.
Tickets to the various shows cost R10 for scholars with all festival entry R50 and daily entry R20. Tickets will be available at the doors.
