The municipality’s Public Housing Department has encouraged its tenants to pay their monthly rental through its various payment options, or use the help available if they are unable to pay.

Tenants who are unable to pay must apply to the City of Cape Town for relief or make a payment arrangement. Tenants are advised to make an appointment to visit their local housing office. The housing offices in Helderberg are located in Strand, Lwandle and Macassar.

It is important that the amount due is paid each month to ensure that the relief granted and the arrangement made is not cancelled and avoid debt management action being taken against them.

“The City thanks all tenants who have continued to pay their rental diligently during these difficult times. The income from these payments is used for maintenance and upgrades to the City’s rental stock across the metro,” said Malusi Booi, Mayoral Committee member for Human Settlements.

“Tenants who are struggling to make regular rental payments or who are in arrears, are encouraged to approach the City for assistance and to enter into a payment arrangement with us. Help is available; make an appointment with us so that we can help you.”

Only a limited number of customers will be allowed in the housing office at a time, while only customers who have made an appointment will be assisted. Strict Covid-19 protocols will be enforced at all housing offices, which are open weekdays from 08:00 to 15:00.

The housing offices in the basin are as follows:. Lwandle Housing Office in Vulindlela Street – 021 400 6992;. Macassar Housing Office in Bind Avenue – 021 444 4097; and. Rusthof Housing Office on the corner of Webb and Lower Gordon’s Bay Road in Strand – 021 841 4860
