The first-ever Cape Town Motor Show (CTMS) presented last weekend had car enthusiasts excited and eager to see the most amazing wheels and deals to be found in the Cape.
The show, which took place in five venues at Grand West, had a bit of everything for anybody interested in cars.
The Grand Arena housed a huge variety of exotic cars, from a purple McClaren to three different Shelby Mustang conversions Z white GT, red Super Snake and black Terlingua Z to a blood red Ferrari. What would a car show be without German performance cars such as Porsche and Audi, and a Jaguar or two?
The Sun exhibition area hosted custom bikes and other interesting vehicles, one which I swear was built for Mad Max as well as an exhibition by the Crankhandle Club of a variety of vintage cars from Bugatti to Bentley. Of course a few Rolls Royces and classic cars with brands we no longer have with us also graced the show.
The outdoor section included several off-road cars and a drifting arena, where the Achilles Tyre Drift Team took members of the public for hair raising spins around the special drifting circuit. The smell and sound of the burning rubber as well as the clouds of smoke had many a young enthusiast’s heart racing.
The Market Hall hosted all the specialised exhibits, equipment, clothing, accessories and services relating to cars and bikes, from helmets to bearings and tyres.
The show was officially opened by Alderman Patricia De Lille, who was especially happy that the CTMS was supporting the Manenburg Upliftment Project and the City’s Fire and Rescue Services.
Cape Town Tourism CEO Enver Duminy hopes the show will rival the world’s big motor shows and draw visitors to Cape Town.
If you missed the show this year, attend next year, it will get the petrol pumping in your veins!
