In celebration of World Marrow Donor Day (WMDD), the South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR) will host a donor-registration drive this coming Saturday.
This day is celebrated annually on 3 September to thank stem-cell donors worldwide for their selfless act.
Apart from thanking donors, the aim of the event is to raise awareness of the lack of stem-cell donors in SA and the impact a transplant can have on a patient’s life.
Those between ages 16 and 45 who are in good health are encouraged to sign up.
Sign-up online at www.sabmr.co.za.
Monetary donations towards the SABMR’s Patient Assistance Programme will also help to ease the financial burden on patients and their families. Limited-edition keyrings and dog tags are available to buy, to raise funds.
