McMillan Muller spent most of his younger years on the stands as he watched club rugby with his father, but little did he know that it would be the start of a memorable rugby career. In his very short club rugby tenure, which started in 2019, her hard work, dedication and passion for the game is what brought him to where he is today.

As a young boy Muller kicked off his rugby career at 6 years old in Grade 1. “I started off as a prop in the front row,” he said. “I probably played only one game that year.”

As the years went by and he grew taller, Muller started playing lock and loose forward. He is now back in the front row as lock. The Swellendam-born athlete, affiliated to Montagu Villagers, was recently scouted for the Tel Aviv tour to South Africa in March.

Regarding how he felt about playing in the Tel Aviv tour, Muller says: “I really loved every moment. I was also on my nerves because I had not been in a professional set-up for quite some time and to be invited to play for such a huge club is big.”

He jogged onto the field alongside big names in rugby, such as Ronaldo Bothma and Jacques Potgieter. “It was a humbling experience,” Muller said.

After the tour he was asked to play in the semi-final of the Tel Aviv heat tour, which took place two weeks ago and unfortunately they lost.

“The loss was quite disappointing, but I believe from here we will build for the coming year,” Muller said.
