Come Wednesday 4 May, a new free publication will hit the streets of the Helderberg, with the region’s favourite two newspapers merging into one bigger and better brand.

Boland Media, a division of Media24 and proud publisher of 10 newspapers in the Boland, is proud and excited to announce the merger of two of its successful print titles, Helderberg Gazette (free title) and DistrictMail (sold title). The new free title will, as of Wednesday 4 May, be known as DistrictMail and Helderberg Gazette, and boast a 36 000 print order every Wednesday – the largest print footprint offering in the Helderberg.

Says Esmé Smit, general manager of Media24’s community news: “In recent times we’ve been made much more aware of the value placed on local services and businesses around us. Having a local newspaper understand local minds as well as consumer needs and trends has been and will continue being our key focus moving forward as a brand-new free newspaper.

“Combining the best of the best hyperlocal newspapers of the Helderberg region into one newspaper will offer outstanding quality to readers and unprecedented reach to advertisers.”

With a combined existence stretching more than 100 years, the award winning newspaper brands have a proud history of delivering hyperlocal news and providing advertisers with a print publication. The amalgamation of the two brands will ensure that both readers and advertisers benefit through the 40% market penetration weekly – an aspect which no other print title can offer in this region. Newspapers will be delivered door-to-door in the suburbs of Somerset West, Strand, Gordon’s Bay, Sir Lowry’s Pass, Macassar, Firgrove, Croydon, Faure, Raithby, Lwandle and Nomzamo.

“DistrictMail and Helderberg Gazette will continue delivering the same quality and trusted hyperlocal news to the communities it serves, along with a valued, reliable, tried and tested print vehicle to get customers flocking to your stores,” explained Helderberg Media editorial publisher Tasmin Cupido. “What’s more, our media house will also offer a digital advertising offering that can be tailor-made to suit your needs. We look forward to continuing the proud legacy of DistrictMail and Helderberg Gazette for many years to come.”
